Corgi is ‘The Home of Die-Cast’.
As the current defender of Britain’s skies, after the famous Hawks of the Red Arrows, the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 is probably the aircraft type most members of the UK public are most familiar with and are only too aware that it’s striking good looks are backed up by incredible performance and devastating capabilities. In addition to the Typhoon’s operational effectiveness, this true multi-role aircraft also happens to be the consummate Airshow display performer and if the appeal of seeing one of these awesome jets being hurled around the sky in breathtaking fashion wasn’t appealing enough, the RAF Typhoon Display Team take the Typhoon to another level altogether. Already aware of their Airshow popularity, the Royal Air Force sanctioned the ‘special presentation’ of their display jet for the 2021 season, a scheme which immediately ensured that Typhoon ZJ914 went on to become the highest profile aircraft in current RAF service.
The scheme was a real head-turner, taking design inspiration from the Union Flag and Royal Air Force roundel, applied over a smart overall black ‘aggressor’ scheme and it didn’t take long before the aircraft worked its way into the hearts of enthusiasts and aviation photographers everywhere. Colloquially referred to as ‘Blackjack’, the RAF’s display Typhoon was a headline performer of growing repute and for the 2022 Airshow season, was expertly flown by Flt Lt Adam O’Hare, operating the aircraft under the dramatic callsign ‘Anarchy 1’. Flight Lieutenant O’Hare took the stunning good looks of his jet and combined it with a dynamic display routine full of exciting high energy manoeuvres and high-speed passes, making full use of the aircraft’s powerful and responsive afterburners to leave spectators in awe and desperate for more.
The runner up prize is another die-cast representation of a British aviation classic.
One of the most famous fighting aeroplanes in the history of flight, the Supermarine Spitfire is probably as familiar to people today as it was during the aerial dogfights which took place during the Battle of Britain. As such, if anyone wanted to fly in a warbird, that aircraft would surely have to be a Spitfire, and thanks to a modification introduced after the end of WWII, people now have the chance to do just that.
The T.9 variant of the famous Spitfire is the two-seat training derivative of the fighter, and for those in a position to do so, allows the lucky few to experience the thrill of flying in this iconic aircraft. Wearing its distinctive ‘Sharkmouth’ livery, TE308 (G-AWGB) is amongst the best-loved historic aircraft in Britain today. If you speak to the people at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, you might just be able to add your name to a very long list of people waiting to take a flight in her. If you are lucky enough to do so, you will certainly want one of these fabulous models as a moment of your special day.
